Newborn Must Haves

Being a first time mom can be exciting, fun and sometimes nerve wrecking! Finding great products for my little one was a task because there’s literally so many baby products on the market and how do you know which ones you’ll need?

I’m now a mom of a three month old baby, Amara, my heart in human form! Literally! I can’t believe how quickly time has gone but now that she’s basically out of the newborn phase I can share what was needed to make both of our lives happier!

Baby Bottles

Breastfeeding is a full time job! Sometimes mommy needs a break and daddy or even family can step in and feed your little one if you have some baby bottles at hand. It can sometimes be tricky finding the right bottle for your baby as some moms like myself will like to continue breastfeeding for a while but don’t want their baby to prefer the bottle and there are some babies that prefer breastfeeding and refuse to take a bottle that differs. If you share these concerns I’ll suggest trying the Comotomo baby bottles. The nipples are really soft and resembles the breast well! They are also very easy to clean and made from Silicon, therefore it’s free from chemicals you’ll typically find in a plastic bottles (yes I’m that mom).

Breast Pump

As I shared above, sometimes mommy needs a break. You can do that and still provide your little one with breastmilk by getting a breast pump. There are so many types of breast pumps, manual, electric and hospital grade breast pumps. I use the Spectra S2 Plus Electric Pump. It’s very easy to use, quiet and gets the job done! There’s also the Spectra S1 Plus Electric Pump which is better if you’re always on the go as it is wireless. Both are some of the most affordable electric pumps on the market.

Burp Cloths

Feeding and burping your baby can get pretty messy, having a burp cloth near by comes in handy! Burt’s Bees Baby Burp Cloth are organic and so soft!

Drying Racks and Sterilizers

All of your baby’s bottles, pacifiers, even your breast pump parts, you name it has to be sterilized! There’s the old school way of sterilizing which is fine, boiling them in a pot of water but getting an actual sterilizer saves so much time and with a newborn, time is precious! The Tommee Tippee Steri-Steam Electric Steam Sterilizer takes about 5 minutes to sterilize everything and it holds so much. Plus your hands don’t need to be burning up trying to take them out! When I’m done I place everything on my OXO Tot Bottle Cleaning and Drying Set to dry.

Baby Carrier

Whether you’re heading to the store, for a walk or just need some free hands around the house, getting a baby carrier helps a lot! You can get things done while your baby relaxes on you so both of you are pleased. I find myself using this a lot especially when I’m going grocery shopping or if Amara just wants to be comforted extra on some days when I need to get stuff done. The Babybjorn Baby Carrier Mini was my carrier of choice as it is geared towards newborns (I do not plan on baby wearing for a long time) and it’s easy to use especially as a first time parent and clean. It holds infants up to 24 lbs.

Diaper Bag

Fun fact I hated the look of diaper bags while I was pregnant so it took me a very long time to decide what diaper bag I wanted. Why do they have to be so big? I see why now! When leaving the house with your newborn you always want to make sure you have everything they need which can be quite a few things. I was also so happy when I found one on the low, this is a gem! It holds everything and it is pretty cute too. I got mines in Navy Blue.

Diaper Balm

Diaper rash is a fear of every first time mom! Prevention is cure, using a diaper balm like the Earth Mama Organic Diaper Balm which smells so good! It works well with my baby and also good ole Vaseline which you may find at your local drug store or supermarket.

Muslin Swaddles

I love Muslin Swaddles, especially from Aden + Anais. The quality is great! These swaddles can be used for several things like swaddling your baby for good sleep, a car seat cover and also a breastfeeding cover.

Bath Tub

Having a safe and comfy space to bathe your baby is essential. Bath time is apart of my daughter’s night time routine, it calms her down nicely. Skip Hop’s Moby Bathtub can be used for newborns, infants and toddlers!

Baby Swing and Bouncers

Sometimes you may need a little assistance soothing your baby. My daughter loved her 4 Moms MamaRoo from birth and she uses it as a seat now while watching her shows. Bouncers are great as well, it’s lightweight and can be easily moved from room to room.

Rattles

During month two, my daughter started loving baby rattles! My favorites are from Manhattan Toys. We also use them to work on her motor skills like grabbing!

Health and Safety Kit

The Frida Mom Baby Basics Kit save our lives daily! I’m honestly a Frida Baby stan account because they literally think of the best tools for your baby! It consists of several items such as the NoseFrida, the SnotSucker, Windi the GasPasser which has instantly helped my baby with gas, NailFrida the Snipper Clipper, with the perfect with a safety spyhole so you can see where you are clipping, NailFrida S-Curved Nail and the DermaFrida the SkinSoother which is an amazing tool to use if your baby has cradle cap.

There’s so much more I can mention but these are just a few! I love mom life and you are going to too! You got this mom!
